Choosing the right facial cleanser
Cleansing is the most important first step in any skincare routine, because it determines how well the rest of your care can work. The goal is not the most intense cleanse, but the one that suits your skin type: cleansing gels and foams clarify oilier and combination skin, while cleansing milks, creamy cleansers and cleansing oils gently remove make-up and sebum from dry or sensitive skin without drying it out. A toner is optional and can round off cleansing, remove residue and prepare the skin for serums and creams.
How to fit cleansing into your routine
Cleanse morning and evening with lukewarm water, then apply the rest of your care. With make-up or sunscreen, a double cleanse can help: first an oil or cleansing balm, then a mild gel. Avoid water that is too hot and cleansing too frequently, as this can irritate the skin barrier. Cleansing is usually followed by a serum and a suitable face cream; once or twice a week you can add a mask. If your skin is prone to blemishes, you will also find clarifying options in the Acne & Blemish-Prone Skin collection.
