Dehydrated skin or dry skin?

Dehydrated skin describes a skin condition, not a skin type: the skin temporarily lacks moisture (water). It may feel tight, look dull, feel rough or show fine dehydration lines – and this can happen with any skin type, even oily or combination skin. Common triggers include indoor heating, air conditioning, frequent cleansing or active routines. The Dry Skin skin type, by contrast, is a permanent state with too little of the skin's own oil (lipids). The distinction guides product choice: dehydrated skin calls first for replenishing moisture, while dry skin also benefits from rebuilding the lipid layer.

How to build your hydration routine

Rely on moisture-binding ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, which hold water in the skin. Ideally apply a suitable serum to slightly damp skin, then seal the moisture in with a face cream so it does not evaporate again. Temporarily reduce drying factors such as overly frequent or aggressive cleansing. If your skin stays permanently low in oil and sensitive, it is worth looking at the Dry Skin skin type with richer, lipid-replenishing textures.
